Maxwell + PLACE: More ways for lenders to win
Today, we’re announcing that Maxwell has joined PLACE.
Some of you have known for a while that Maxwell and PLACE were coming together. We’ve spent that time focused on our customers, getting the teams working together and starting to build. Today, I want to talk more openly about why this combination matters and where we’re going with it.
Our team has spent the last decade building technology and services for the lenders serving America’s communities. In 2025, nearly one in 10 U.S. mortgage originations touched Maxwell. With PLACE, we get to work helping those lenders and our institutional partners compete across more of the real estate transaction and stay valuable to homeowners long after closing.
Lenders can’t cut their way to growth
For the mortgage industry, much of the last four years has been about managing through a difficult market. Lenders have cut costs, streamlined operations and found ways to do more with less.
But as every CEO knows, you can’t cut your way to growth. Eventually, you have to find more business. You have to turn more of the opportunities already in front of you into closed loans and give customers a reason to come back.
That requires thinking beyond the mortgage application itself.
A borrower might spend a few weeks getting a mortgage and then the next decade living in that home. During those years, they’ll buy, sell, refinance, renovate and make countless financial decisions tied to the place they live. There are many more opportunities for a lender to be useful than the moment someone clicks “Apply.” That’s where I think the industry has room to think bigger.
Most lenders shouldn’t have to build an entire real estate and homeownership ecosystem themselves. They should be able to rely on their technology partners to help them participate in more of that customer journey.
That’s a big part of what excites me about bringing Maxwell and PLACE together.
Why PLACE matters
What stood out to me when Ben, Chris, Rutul and I started talking last year was how similar our view of the industry really was. PLACE talks about “delivering the dream of homeownership everywhere.” At Maxwell, our vision is to “turn the tide of homeownership and spread financial empowerment.” Different words, but our hearts were in the same place.
PLACE built its business helping real estate agents serve buyers and sellers in their communities. We built Maxwell helping lenders do the same from the financing side. Neither company was trying to replace the people at the center of the transaction. We were trying to make them better at what they do.
That matters to real people because, for them, homeownership doesn’t happen in neat industry silos. The consumer doesn’t think, “Now I’m in the real estate portion of my journey, and next I’ll enter the mortgage portion.” They’re trying to buy a house. The agent, loan officer, lender and everyone else involved have to make that happen together. PLACE and Maxwell came at that challenge from different sides. Now we get to work on it together.
And we’re making a very deliberate bet.
If you look across mortgage technology, some companies are expanding outward into broader financial services, bringing mortgage together with deposit accounts, personal loans and other banking products. We’re choosing to go deeper into housing.
I want lenders to choose Maxwell because we help them grow their business, not only because we help them process a mortgage efficiently. PLACE gives us a chance to work on more of the things that determine whether a lender actually wins that next customer.
What we’re going to do with it
It will begin with the relationship between the loan officer and the real estate agent.
A buyer finds a house on Saturday and wants to make an offer. The agent needs to know what’s possible. The loan officer needs to understand what changed. The buyer just wants confidence that everyone is on the same page.
Today, too much of that still gets pieced together through phone calls, texts, emails and people chasing each other for information. We can do better.
PLACE works with real estate teams every day. Maxwell works with lenders every day. That gives us a chance to build around how both sides of the transaction actually work, not just one side of it. If we can make that connection tighter, the consumer gets a better experience and the agent and loan officer have a better reason to work together on the next transaction.
Then there’s what happens after closing.
You put a lot into earning a borrower’s trust. I want Maxwell to help you keep earning it between loans, so you’re the person they think of when they need financing again.
One small example is already underway. We’re integrating Connect Services, PLACE’s moving concierge service, into Maxwell as an optional feature lenders can turn on. Connect helps homebuyers set up utilities, internet and other services for their new home, free to both the consumer and the lender. It’s not complicated. Someone is buying a house, packing boxes and trying to figure out how to get the lights turned on. Their lender can make one more part of that process easier.
There’s a big opportunity in data, too. PLACE brings extensive nationwide data on properties, mortgages and real estate transactions. With the appropriate permissions and controls, we can use that information to give loan officers a better picture of the borrower, the home and the transaction they’re working on.
That can mean less time piecing information together before a conversation. It can mean recognizing that a past customer has a real reason to hear from you instead of sending another generic “checking in” email. And it can help a lender understand where an opportunity exists before somebody else does.
That’s how I want us thinking about AI, too. The test isn’t whether we can add another AI feature to a product. The test is whether a loan officer becomes more productive, more borrowers convert and customers have a better experience.
Those are business outcomes. That’s where I want our team focused.
Lender’s brands stays at the center
Maxwell remains your partner. You’ll continue working with the team, products and services you know, and we’ll keep investing in making them better. Your brand is the one your customers know and trust. Our job is to help you build on that trust.
PLACE has spent years helping local real estate brands grow in the communities they serve, regardless of what brokerage they’re at. We bring that same philosophy to lenders.
Keep telling us where good opportunities fall through and what would help you earn that next piece of business. Those are the problems I want our team working on.
Let’s get going.
